Freeway of fire

September 7, 2008

Generally I only post my new poems here. But today, I happened to come across this one of mine from 10/25/92. I’d forgotten all about it. Lately I’ve  apparently unknowingly borrowed a line or two  from this one and used them in new  writing. Enough of my rattling here it is.

The serpent, slowly he rides on a highway of fire,

Burning,

burning,

The fields are burning.

Silently, the skies above ,

heavens glory are burning.

The serpent, he strides on a freeway of fire.

Set alight, the mountain peak,

searing,

scorching,

with a kiss of flame,

a tongue of fire.

Slowly he creeps,

his scales flaring

like rose petals torching

among the remains of bludgeoned earth.

Silent return

September 6, 2008

At the last I spoke to you,

you disappeared for weeks.

Your mystery surely is safe here,

your secret I shall quietly keep.

Missed while you were  away,

for your return I wondered and waited.

You’re  just in time for Autumn,

Summer’s lingering soon will be faded.

It is like a picture taken and shown with neither words nor sound,

more is spoken in silence than words have ever found.

It will be warm inside this fall,

the fire kindled and glowing.

Stay a while if you will,

soon Autumn’s leaves start blowing.

Alive

August 23, 2008

Alive and free,

alive at last.

Alive as the daylight’s first rays devour and chase away the dreary mist and chill sunken heavy, low and thick from a sightless blackened night of fallen dreams once lost in slumber’s lull.

Alive and soaring,

Alive once again.

Alive as midnight’s moonlight, softly glowing pale light, dances on rippling waters shimmering on a late summer’s silent eve tingling with magical enchantment calling, waiting, setting the soul in flight.

A strike of a match

August 16, 2008

From the first flickering flash,

sparkling strike of a sulfurous match.

Brilliantly bright, an amber glow burning.

Fierce and fiery flare, igniting a fevered fury.

A glimpse and a glint, a glittering flame glistening.

But beauty can be brief, in a breath, this blaze begins blistering.
